Today was a stunningly beautiful day. We were invited to lunch at Elder and Sister Swift's apartment. They are on the 9th floor of the building where we lived during our last mission. This is shot of downtown Frankfurt. Frankfurt is somewhat unique in Germany. There are numerous very tall banks.
This is a shot the other way looking out towards Friedrichsdorf.
Today was special because Gail Halvorsen came to the Friedrichsdorf Ward to speak in church. Gail is the world famous "Candy Bomber" that was featured in the Conference Center at Christmas time. During the Russian blockade of Berlin, the Americans used airplanes to deliver the needed supplies to the people of Berlin. Gail is known for dropping candy to the children. This pictures shows Marilynn, David, Carolin Spinden (a friend from the office where we work), Gail Halvorsen, and our friends in the apartment next door, the Witzels.
Here is Gail, Elder Leimer (he was the stake president in Frankfurt that was just made an Area Seventy, and Christian Ottiker (a friend and assistant from our last mission).
Another shot of the Frankfurt tower from Porthstrasse.
Here is another photo of Gail Halvorsen (who is now 92) and the Witzel's. Michael Witzel currently serves as the commander of a German Tank Company. He told Gail that while he was in Afghanistan, the German soldiers tried to follow Gail's example by being kind to the children. This picture is kind of special.
