Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein

We drove from the Zugspitze to Hohenschwangau. Hohenschwangau is almost in the shadow of Neuschwanstein (the famous Disney-like castle of Ludwig II). Below you can see the white Neuschwanstein on the hill above the orange Honenschwangau.
Hohenschwangau belonged to Ludwig's father. He watched Neuschwanstein being built through a telescope.
The grounds are lovely. This fountain rests on the backs of four lions. Whatever they ate for dinner was not good, because they just kept barfing.
Here is the view looking down at the parking lot.
It was raining and we did not go to Neuschwanstein. However, this was our first visit to the older Hohenschwangau.
This is a traditional Bavarian May Pole. The blue and stripes were the favorite colors of Ludwig.
The clouds cleared enough for this picture of Neuschwanstein.
