The first day of school was August 20th. We home teach Torin who is shown below. They try to make the first day of school in Germany a big deal for kids when they start school. Here is smiling Torin with Star Wars Yoda. What you can't tell is that Yoda is attached to a very large cone that is filled with goodies. Every child takes one of these to school the first day and when they come home all the goodies are theirs to enjoy.
Here is Marilynn with Fionn and Torin going into the church, which is the first place they go on that "first" day of school. They have a little program and the pastor speaks to them and then they are given a blessing.
At one point the new school kids all stand up and display their cone.
Then we left the church and Torin got together with his friends for this picture. I think they are happy that they get to start school.
This is inside the school. Torin is marching up to meet his teacher. He has his cone full of goodies with him. It was a special treat for us to be invited to see this first day of school tradition in Germany.
