We think that spring has finally arrived in Friedrichsdorf. Hopefully, it will stay. This is the view from our kitchen window. The church you see has an interesting history. The Huguenots were driven out of France and some of them landed here. Friedrich III needed workers and they needed a place to land. It worked out well and they named the town "Friedrichsdorf".
We took a drive to the east to the little town of Steinau an der Strasse. The house below is the childhood home of the Grimm brothers, Wilhelm and Jacob.

Next to their house is this Holy Roman Empire road from the 8th Century--it went from Frankfurt to Leipzig (passing through Steinau). I think the wagon wheels basically had to stay in the ruts. The German word for road is Strasse. Thus the town was called Steinau an der Strasse.
The Steinau Palace has a museum inside that is mostly a tribute to the Grimm brothers. Below is a set from a Hansel and Gretel puppet show.
The Palace has several tapestries portraying scenes from the life of Cleopatra. One is below.
Here is Marilynn standing by the well on the Palace wall.
They have this depiction of the brothers Grimm near the entrance to the Palace.
Here is David standing by a moose carving in the moat.
Here is a beautiful old house on Grimm Street in Steinau.
