Today Anahil, Patricia, Marilynn and I went to Buchenwald Concentration Camp. Here we are in front of the Information Building
This is the end of the line. Here the train stopped to unload anyone who crossed the line with the National Socialist Party. It was not just Jews, but Russians, Poles, Gypsies, and others. From the trains, the prisoners were forced to walk through this gate into the camp. The Clock was stopped at 3:15 on April 15, 1945 which is the hour when the Americans arrived to free the people that were still alive.
From inside the jail, this is the view down the fence.
This is David going through the metal door into the camp
Most of the buildings were destroyed either during or after World War II. Just the foundations remain of the rows of barracks.
These are of some of the ovens used to cremate remains.
This display shows the shoes of some of the men, women, and children that lost their lives here. The sadness is deep and difficult to comprehend. We must never loose our humanity. We must also be responsible for our actions.
This link is a reaction to this camp after WW II.
